ABOUT

Tenor Mason Montuoro has been praised for his "effortless high notes and sweet lyrical sound." This past season, Mason performed as Gherardo & covered Rinuccio with Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre in Gianni Schicchi and portrayed Luke in The Handmaid's Tale with Glow Lyric Theatre.

 

Previously, Mason performed the role of Dean Clarkson in the Southeastern premiere of Stinney: An American Execution with Glow Lyric Theatre & returned to Lawrence Opera Theatre to perform Ramiro in La Cenerentola. He is an active recitalist & musician, having worked with Landlocked Opera, California State University, Northridge, North Park University, Grant Park Music Festival Chorus, & Chicago Choral Artists.

Previously, Mason has appeared at Lawrence Opera Theatre under the tutelage of Hugo Vera. he portrayed the role of Fenton in Falstaff, First Armoured Man in Die Zauberflöte, & Gastone in La Traviata. Additionally, Mason performed as a Young Artist with the Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre as the Constable in The Threepenny Opera.

Mason was the recipient of an Encouragement Award at the 2020 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Iowa District. He was also a finalist in the 2019 Hal Leonard National Voice Competition.


Mason is a graduate of the University of Iowa and Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. During his studies, he  performed as Laurie in Little Women, Ferrando in Così fan tutte, Marco in The Gondoliers, and sang in the Nordic Choir.
